What Is ACS Domestic Gas Safety (Category 3) Training?

The course comprises an initial 3 week training period at our centre to give the candidate a foundation of working knowledge and an understanding of gas principles and safety. Throughout the initial training candidates will undertake theoretical and practical assessments as per the Gas Safety Portfolio. After completion of this training, delegates are required to undertake a minimum of 10 week period of work experience with a registered gas engineer to complete their portfolio. The work experience should be completed within 6 months of completion of the initial training period.

- Emergency procedures
- Gas supply and gas pipe work
- Gas safety devices and controls
- Ventilation & Combustion
- Flueing standards and principles
- Unsafe situations
- Practical exercises
- Week 2 Completion of in-centre portfolio tasks which include
- Pipework Installation and Defects
- Tightness Testing - Domestic and MOP Installations
- Purge and Re-light
- Checking Meter Regulators
- Appliance Maintenance
- Unsafe Situations
- Gas Safety Controls
- Ventilation & Combustion
- Chimney - Installation and Testing
- Week 3 Working with copper pipe and fitting; soldered and compression joints
- Measure; cut bend and construct a test frame; fill to mains pressure; test for leaks
- Working with plastic pipe and fittings; pipe to radiators
- Fill; vent and pressure the system; link to a Y plan system; check for leaks
- Mount radiators to wall
- Pipe up radiators with copper pipe; solder and compression fittings
- Fit and commission a gas cooker and Gas Fire
- Pipe to a combi boiler frame; fill and vent system to correct pressure
- Run condensate plastic pipe to discharge
- Course review Part 2; after successful completion of work experience (9 days):
- Review of evidence portfolio
- Update training for ACS core safety; combustion performance and gas meters
- Gas safety legislation and standards
- Emergency procedures
- Gas supply and gas pipe work
- Pipe sizing calculations
- Purging and testing
- Gas safety devices and controls
- Flueing standards and principles
- Practical exercises
- ACS written and practical assessments for CCN1; CPA1 and MET1.

Venue

ACS Domestic Gas Safety (Category 3) training is available at training centres UK wide, and on client premises (as required) provided minimum delegate numbers are achieved. Parking, public transport links and refreshments vary from centre to centre and these will be confirmed to you prior to your enrolment on any course.
